Pros and Cons of Selling a Home in the Spring

Every season in Wisconsin has its own pros and cons for whether it is a good time to sell your home. Today we are going to be focusing on whether it is a good time to sell your Chippewa Valley home this spring!

3 Cons of Selling in Spring

1) Buyers may be more picky because they have more options available to them. Trends show that spring is the biggest housing market of the year. When there are more listings available, buyer’s have the ability to shop around to find the best fit.

2) Buyers may be spooked by the current interest rates. As of March 2023, there have been rises in interest rates over the past couple months and it is likely that they will continue to increase in coming months. Some buyers have put a hold on their housing search while they “wait it out.” But rest assured there are still buyers actively searching in the Chippewa Valley, especially in the $200,00-300,000 price range.

3) You will have to act quickly to address the exterior of your home and get your curb appeal in tip top shape. A lot depends on when the snow melts – and we all know the end of winter and beginning of spring can be a very unattractive time for curb appeal. So you will have to do a quick turnaround.

3 Pros of Selling in Spring

1) There are more buyers actively looking for housing in the spring. This could mean multiple offers on your property – especially if there are limited homes on the market to choose from. In the Eau Claire area over the past couple months, we are still seeing multiple offers (even up to 10 offers) in the first time home buyer price range.

2) Curb appeal – if we are in the pretty time of spring, everything is starting to grow. Think about the beautiful spring flowers and lush lawn. Bonus points If you have crab apple trees on your property – these will photograph beautifully.

3) No one wants to move in the winter. Spring will bring with it good weather. More buyers will be ready to move with the nice weather. They will be looking to get settled into their new home before the hustle and bustle of summer.
