8 Tips for Prepping Your Chippewa Falls Home for Sale this Spring

Spring is right around the corner. And you might be starting to feel a little restless in your current home. If you are considering selling this spring, I have 8 great tips for prepping your home for sale.

8 Tips for Prepping Home for Sale

1) Spruce up your landscaping

  • Prune your bushes, weed the garden, fertilize the lawn

2) Apply a fresh coat of paint

  • It is shocking how much a fresh coat of paint can do to upgrade a home. Be sure to fix the drywall before painting.

3) Perform repairs

  • Consider little things such as dripping faucets, faulty light switches, and squeaky door hinges. You will want to make note of bigger repair issues such as foundation issues or broken windows These things don’t necessarily need to be fixed, but you want to keep note of them as they may be identified in the buyer’s home inspection as problem areas.
  • Pro Tip: Consider doing a pre-inspection of your home prior to listing. Fix the repairs that you are able before the house goes on the market.

4) Upgrade the front door

  • Whether you replace it completely or give it an upgrade with some paint, it can add some great curb appeal to your home.

5) Upgrade outdated light fixtures and decor

  • Time to get rid of that shag carpet. Replace the old light fixtures with more modern versions. Investing in these upgrades can have a positive return on your home’s value.

6) Remove clutter

  • The less items in the home, the bigger it feels. You can even go as far as storing away some large furniture pieces that may feel too big for the space.

Remove clothes from the closets that you are not wearing as it makes the closet feel bigger. Consider packing away toys that the kids aren’t actively using.

7) Eliminate bad odors

  • Be careful with this one. You don’t want to mask odors with other strong scents, like air fresheners. A lot of people are sensitive to strong scents of any kind (me included!). If you do notice any type of strong smell in your home, consider getting an air purifier. If you do want to add some sweet smelling scents, consider fresh baked cookies.

8) Deep clean the house

  • It is best to do this right before pictures are taken. Some areas to give special attention to are kitchens and bathrooms. Having a clean home shows pride of ownership.
